A Starbucks treat ......

I SLEPT ALL NIGHT! YES ALLLLLL NIGHT, NO WAKING UP, NO CRYING JUST ASLEEP IN THE CRATE IN THE KITCHEN!

It might not happen again but we celebrated in style at Starbucks. On the walk there lots of people stopped us to say hello (I especially like to lick children) and some people said that I was very pretty.

I'm too young for a latte but I was rewarded for my long walk with a treat and (after some 'pathetic pick me up' looks) I sat on a knee before the walk home.

Knitting!

As it was Gemma's birthday and because she gets cold in the winter I decided to knit her a jumper. I think that the colour will really suit her.

Why am I called Scout?

'I was born good but had grown progressively worse every year'.
Scout, Chapter 9.

One of ML's favourite books is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Published in 1960, it won the Pulitzer Prize (in 1961), and is regarded as a classic of modern American literature with themes of racial injustice, class, gender and courage and the destruction of innocence. The plot and characters are loosely based on the Lee's observations of her family and neighbors, as well as on an event that occurred near her hometown in 1936, when she was 10 years old (perhaps ethnographic in its endevour......).

ML taught To Kill a Mockingbird in her first year as an English teacher and reading aloud to the year 10 class she remembers feeling like a real teacher! Although she has not read the book again for many years and considers that the themes may not stand up to a more critical analysis the character of Scout has the strength, the courage and even when she looses her innocence the compassion to be a good person. Even though she learns about 'a lot of bad in the world' she is warm, friendly and adorable which is what is hoped for Scout the dog!

PS It is very difficult to write in first person dog!

It's been a busy first week in Balham

On Monday I visited not one but TWO vets. We walked (well I was in the bag...) to the first vet but ml decided quite quickly that it was not the place for us so we made an appointment with the vet Maisie scratches and planned to visit them in the afternoon. To get to the second vet I was put in a cat basket! What was she thinking? I cried for the entire journey (well it was hot and I didn't know where I was going) but at the vet they gave me a treat and I got to help the nurse (I sat on her knee).

On Tuesday I met Gemma at the tube:

And on Wednesday I finally made it onto the sofa .... I had to stand on a cushion but I was able to watch a bit of Law and Order before I was moved on:

Although I seem to sleep a lot of the time I am very willing to help out and on Friday I helped in the garden:

I think that I could be really useful .....

A bath already?

I've only been here for one day - do you think I smell?

It was a hard night ...

So maybe I slept too much in the car. I certainly didn't sleep much last night and I was very pleased that ml wasn't grumpy when she visited me in the kitchen. After lots of journeys up and down the corridor it was a good idea for her to sleep on the floor. I know that the crate is meant to be my den but I don't like it and I made sure that everyone knew how I felt.

Day one...

This is me and my sisters .... I was chosen to move to London and like a star was collected by a black car. A strange blue shirt carried me from my family and then a long journey.

After a mammoth 205 miles down the motorway, most of which I slept I arrived at my new house. I had already got to know gemma and ml and was keen to meet maisie who would become my new cat friend.

I got home to find a lovely area especially for me with everything i could need - a snuggly bed, shiny red bowl - and best of all some toys and snoopy. I did what I do best...slept!

After a walk around the garden and getting to know the growing tomatoes I came back for a nap and was happy to watch a bit of Top Chef. A long but enjoyable day.

Hopefully I haven't slept too much and will sleep through the night as I am a bit nervous about being so far away and in a new house...
